Commanders vs. Lions score, live updates: Detroit hosts Washington in the first divisional round game as the No. 1 seed in team history

The Detroit Lions breathed a sigh of relief after winning in Week 18 and securing a first-round bye, and after the Rams’ commanding victory over the Vikings, Dan Campbell and his team aren’t just happy about the extra break. It’s usually beneficial to avoid an early bump in the road if possible, and the Lions will look to take advantage of that against the surging Washington Commanders. Washington started the season with lower expectations, but now comes into the division round with Jayden Daniels, the presumptive NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and earned a road win in the wild card round against the Buccaneers – the only away team to win the first weekend the playoffs.

Detroit is expected to have David Montgomery back in the lineup after missing the final three games of the regular season with a knee injury – he returned to practice on Tuesday. Montgomery rushed for 775 yards and 12 touchdowns in his 14 games this season, uniting the Sonic and Knuckles tandem with Jahmyr Gibbs in Detroit’s backfield. This duo led the Lions to sixth in the NFL in rushing and second in the league in rushing touchdowns this season.

With a win, Washington would advance to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since its Super Bowl victory at the end of the 1991 season.
