ARLINGTON, Texas – All-Star shortstop and two-time World Series MVP Corey Seager says he feels great and is ready for the first day of spring training with the Texas Rangers after undergoing hernia surgery twice last year.

“It’s a pretty normal off-season, which is nice. For the first time in a long time,” Seager said Friday night before the team’s annual awards dinner, where he was named Rangers Player of the Year. “It was good to get in the gym and get back in shape and kind of be ready.”

Seager had surgery for a right sports hernia on September 13th. That’s been on the opposite side of his abdomen since the initial procedure on Jan. 30 that forced him to miss most of spring training last year even though he was ready for the season opener.

Between those procedures, Seager hit .278 with 30 home runs and 74 RBIs in 123 games. After a slow start, he hit .296 with 28 home runs and 66 RBIs in 94 games after early May.

“Maybe it would have been a little easier just knowing what to expect,” Seager said of the recent recovery. “You weren’t so nervous about certain feelings and stuff like that. So when the six weeks were over, I kind of started full steam ahead and was able to get into it a little slower than I did in (last) spring.”

Seager dealt with the left hernia issue during the postseason when the Rangers won their first World Series title in 2023. He still hit .318 with six home runs, 12 RBIs and 15 walks in 17 postseason games.
