Good Knight in Sunrise as the Panthers beat Anaheim 3-0

The Florida Panthers ended their last short home game with a strong 60 minutes of hockey.

Florida eliminated the visiting Anaheim Ducks and posted a 3-0 victory at Amerant Bank Arena on Saturday night.

The majority of the opening period revolved around goaltending as both Spencer Knight and John Gibson made several big stops to keep the game scoreless.

With 4:34 left in the first period, Sam Reinhart caught Isac Lundestrom with what appeared to be a knee-on-knee strike deep in the Ducks zone.

Lundestrom needed help skating off the ice.

The play was reviewed and upheld for a major penalty, giving Anaheim a five-minute power play and sending Reinhart to the shower early.

The Panthers did a good job converting the penalty, allowing just two shots to the Ducks and running their 31st-ranked power play, which came into the game with a success rate of 12.7%.

Just after midway through the game, Florida finally broke the ice and it was Jesper Boqvist who beat Gibson from the left circle to give the Cats a 1-0 lead.

It was just after the four-minute mark of the third period when Florida doubled its lead.

Anton Lundell intercepted a Ducks pass in the neutral zone and quickly moved the puck into the Anaheim zone, where he fired a long shot that went under Gibson’s pad before crossing the goal line.

Gus Forsling added an empty-net goal for good measure and that would be all Knight needed, finishing the game with 34 saves to secure his second shutout of the season.

We continue on to Anaheim again.

QUICK THOUGHTS

Boqvist is up to 11 goals this season, a new career high.

He has now scored three goals and seven points in his last ten games.

Dmitry Kulikov assisted on Boqvist’s goal, making him his third consecutive assist this season
