Jordan Poole endured a losing night against his former team on Saturday night, hitting eight 3-pointers with five rebounds and assists each on his way to 38 points.
After the game, Poole told Marc Spears of ESPN’s Andscape that he still loved “most” of the guys in that locker room, with the clear exception of Draymond Green, who beat Poole during training camp in 2022, a move that cast a shadow over the game I played a team all season and killed the positive vibes of a team coming off a championship.
Green saw this quote on X and apologized.
I don’t doubt Green is being sincere here, but I also can’t blame Poole if he doesn’t accept it. Since the incident, Green has admitted multiple times that he made a mistake and let Poole and the organization down.
Green punished himself more than Golden State. The organization initially tried to downplay the incident, but when video of the altercation leaked, the Warriors made their priorities clear: They fined Green but didn’t suspend him, then eventually traded Poole and kept Green around. Last season, Green was suspended indefinitely from the NBA after punching Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face, and as part of the suspension he was required to attend therapy sessions. This reportedly resulted in a more mature, “prettier” green.
