If you had the under for the Washington Commanders-Detroit Lions game, you could only laugh. This ticket was drawn before half time.

According to Fox, the Commanders and Lions had the highest scoring quarter in NFL playoff history in the second quarter. The teams combined for 42 points.

Considering the game’s total score at BetMGM was 55.5 points before kickoff, there wasn’t much uncertainty about what the outcome would be. In the live betting market, the total rose to over 85 during the second quarter scoring flurry. After Jared Goff threw an interception into the end zone just before halftime, the live betting total at halftime stood at 83.5. This is more like a Big 12 game than an NFL playoff game.

The highest scoring playoff game in NFL history was a 51-45 Arizona Cardinals victory over the Green Bay Packers in overtime of a wild card game in the 2009 season.

The over officially reached 6:57 left in the third quarter on a Jahmyr Gibbs touchdown that cut Washington’s lead to 31-28.

Here was the scoring in a ridiculous second quarter: Brian Robinson scored a 2-yard touchdown run for the Commanders, Sam LaPorta responded with a one-handed touchdown catch in the end zone for the Lions, Terry McLaurin took a short screen pass for 59 yards for a touchdown, Commanders safety Quan Martin had a 40-yard touchdown on an interception return, Jameson Williams scored on a 61-yard run after a reverse, then Jayden Daniels hit Zach Ertz for a 5-yard touchdown.

You can go to some playoff weekends without seeing so many explosive games. The Commanders and Lions did it in one quarter.

There wasn’t much excitement in the wild card round of the NFL playoffs this postseason. The Commanders and Lions made up for it in a single quarter.
