The Houston Texans had an eventful start to their divisional round game against the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s difficult to have a complete breakdown of a play, a stupid penalty, and a shove from a player to the coach all within the first 13 seconds of the game.

The Chiefs got off to a good start on Saturday with a nice 63-yard kickoff return by Nikko Remigio. Texans cornerback Kris Boyd eventually tackled him and forced a fumble, which the Chiefs recovered. Then Boyd lost his mind.

Boyd threw his helmet as he left the field, resulting in a 15-yard penalty for Houston. He then gave Texans special teams coordinator Frank Ross a hard shove as he came to the sideline.

This all looks bad for Boyd. This was no small push as he tried to get past Ross and onto the bench.

The Texans’ defense helped keep the situation from getting worse. They held the Chiefs to a field goal after the kickoff return and penalty. This helped keep the opening sequence from being a complete disaster.

But it certainly wasn’t the first 13 seconds the Texans were hoping for to upset the back-to-back champions.
