NEW YORK – Mathew Barzal and Brock Nelson each had a goal and an assist and the New York Islanders defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-1 on Saturday night.

Noah Dobson and Ryan Pulock also scored, Marcus Hogberg made 18 saves and the Islanders went on a two-game skid.

Barclay Goodrow scored a goal for San Jose and Alexandar Georgiev finished with 27 saves as the Sharks lost for the fifth time in six games (1-5-0).

Barzal scored his sixth goal of the season at 8:47 of the second period to open the scoring.

Goodrow equalized with a wrist shot from the center wall that sailed past Hogberg’s blocker just past the halfway point of the period.

Just 40 seconds later, Nelson gave the Islanders the lead again for good, and Dobson made it 3-1 with 27 seconds left.

Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov served the first game of a three-game suspension Thursday for a high hit on Flyers forward Ryan Poehling.

The Islanders inducted Brent Sutter into the franchise Hall of Fame before the game. Sutter won two Stanley Cups with the Islanders and finished his 19-year NHL career with 363 goals and 466 assists.
