The Islanders overwhelm the Sharks with a commanding 4-1 win

NEW YORK (AP) – Matthew Barzal And Brock Nelson Each scored a goal and an assist and the Islanders defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-1 on Saturday night.

Noah Dobson And Ryan Pulock also dotted, Marcus Hogberg made 18 saves and the Islanders went on a two-game skid.

Barclay Goodrow scored for San Jose and Alexandra Georgiev finished the game with 27 saves as the Sharks lost for the fifth time in six games (1-5-0).

Barzal scored his sixth goal of the season at 8:47 of the second period to open the scoring.

Goodrow equalized with a wrist shot from the center wall that sailed past Hogberg’s blocker just past the halfway point of the period.

Just 40 seconds later, Nelson gave the Islanders the lead again for good, and Dobson made it 3-1 with 27 seconds left.

Pulock extended the lead at 1:03 of the third period.

Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov hasn’t played and is currently serving a three-game suspension after a high hit on the Flyers’ forward Ryan Poehling on Thursday.

The islanders were accepted Brent Sutter inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame before the game. Sutter won two Stanley Cups with the Islanders and finished his 19-year NHL career with 363 goals and 466 assists.
